Gr 4-6 Track Meet 2023

GRADES 4-6 Track Meet Rocks WHS!
The Grades 4-6 track meet took place with smoke in the air and a heat adversary
in effect on Tuesday, June 13 at WHS. It was smoky and hot in the morning but
the breeze really helped our students stay cool and compete all of their events.
The afternoon was clearer with no smoke smell but it was hot 29 Degrees
Celsius Hot!

Students participated in a competitive meet in six events (plus the
Open Mile if anyone wanted to tackle the challenge) which made for a full day.
The six events included three running (80 m dash, 200 m race, 50 m Hurdles)
two jumping (long jump and high jump) and one throwing event (distance throw).
The Open Mile followed all the events and took place just before 2:00 pm.


Major thank you goes out to the following:
1) WHS Grade 8 leadership students. We had 22 students sign up and
assist us in the six events plus the Open Mile and we are so thankful for
those students who give back and model citizenship for their WES Star
students.
Students were: Elijah Valleau, Dylan Roach, Connor Lacey, Memphis
Bourque, Marli Weber, Shelby Sardoff, Hayden Steinborn and Nate
Bamber.

3) Event Leaders
● Teachers: Mrs. Wakefield and Cody Lacey(high jump), Mrs. Valleau (50 m
Hurdles), Mrs. Chaulk, Mrs. Sawyer(90 m Dash) Mrs. Wahlberg(Ball Throw)
Mrs. Shoemaker (Long Jump) with Ryley Andersen(Grade 5) and Ms.
Martens and Mr.Mitchell (200 m race)(Grade 6) as well as EA support Mrs.
Rhodes, Ms. Halsey, Mrs. Nesbitt, Mrs, Lingley and Mrs. Koroluk.
● Mr. Koskie was the 90 m dash starter.
● Ribbons and Recording: Mrs. Munn and Mrs. Rhodes– first time and she
rocked it – grace under fire – well done!
● Huge STAR SALUTE to all staff who helped out with the meet and to our
secretarial staff Mrs. Wells and Mrs. Boychuk for the incredible behind the
scenes job they do in getting all of the necessary paper work compiled. Well
done ladies!
● Thank you to WHS staff for allowing us to use their facility for the day. Mr.
Martin for the use of equipment (tapes, rakes, table, chairs) Partnerships in
education are important and foster growth in all of our students.
● Thank you to BTPS Maintenance staff for transporting high jump mat and
equipment to the high school.

● Huge WES SALUTE TO OUR PARENT ASSOCIATION WEPA (Breanne
Walker, Carlee Whitelock and Lyndsay Dryver and leadership students for
running the booth and providing us with food and beverages during this very
hot day. Leadership students who assisted were Loise Tamayo, Alexis Lee,
Kendall Rutherford and Bristol Green.

● Open Mile top three finishers received a medal and a ribbon – 4th -5th
received a ribbon. Hats off to all students who decided to run the four laps
around the WHS track (especially in the extreme heat) after competing in
six other events first.
● The Open Mile Trophy was donated by Bob and Judy Marchand. We
would like to acknowledge all supporters of school athletics; we truly do
appreciate it.
Huge WES salute to the Grade 4 boys who had perfect attendance and to the
Grade 5 girls’ perfect attendance minus three injured or recovering from injury
students. Well done!
See you in the gym and please have a safe and fun summer outside playing
sports, games, swimming and honing your skills!
