Indigenous Peoples Day 2023
To acknowledge and celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day, Wainwright Elementary hosted the Red Deer Indigenous Dance Troupe to perform. We were able to enjoy a variety of dances including men's Grass and Chicken dances, and women's Traditional, Jingle Dress, and Fancy Shawl dances. The Red Deer Indigenous Dance Troupe also invited WES into an Intertribal Dance. At the end of the performance, we were able to acknowledge MMIW and Every Child Matters with a performance of the song Remember Me by one of the dancers.
Thank you to Vernon Nicotine and the Red Deer Indigenous Dance Troupe for performing and teaching WES about Indigenous culture and traditions.
We hope the community members, students, and staff of WES enjoyed learning about Indigenous culture and continue to.
