WES/BTPS Weather Policies and Procedures
Given how Winter will be making a harsh appearance this week we thought we would remind you of our weather/inclement weather procedures and policies (Also found in our WES Parent Handbook https://wes.btps.ca/
Outdoor Play - Cold Weather Policy
Students go outside each recess break unless the weather is inclement, -25°C with or without the wind chill. Please ensure that your child is appropriately dressed for going outdoors throughout the school year.
Bus Cancellations - Cold Weather
If the temperature with or without a wind-chill factor reaches -40°C buses will not run. The temperature will be read at 6:00 pm the night before, and the decision will be based on the next day's projected temperatures (with windchill) between 6:00-9:00 am for the morning run and from 3:00-5:00 pm for the afternoon run. Regardless of the temperature, students should always wear or carry with them appropriate winter attire when riding the school bus.
The contractor or bus operator is empowered to decide whether to make the run or return students to their places of residence during regular hours when a storm is in progress or threatening. However, in the matter of low temperature, but normal road conditions, the parents will be responsible for deciding whether to send their students on the bus or not.
For more information please read the BTPS Inclement Weather Administrative Procedures Jurisdictional Bus Cancellations 701.11AP and 701.12AP.

Plan Ahead
Discuss with your child and bus driver your plans should the bus driver decide to transport the students’ home early due to inclement weather or in an emergency. Does your child have access to your house? Is there a safe place for your child to go? What happens if they miss the bus?
