WES K-3 Activity Day 2025

WES K-3 Activity Day 2025
WES Rocks the K-3 Activity Day!
On Tuesday, June 10th the K-3 Activity Day finally took place with smoky skies but overall, a decent day: not too hot, not too cold, just right like the porridge from Goldilocks and the Three Bears. K-1 took part in their 20 stations in the morning and
Grades 2-3 in the afternoon.
Classes were divided up into three groups so we could have maximum throws, jumps and runs throughout the day. Attendance was high and our Grade 5s were on hand again to assist at the stations. Comments were made after the event that the Grade 5 helpers did a marvelous job and I tend to agree. They were keen and eager and did a masterful job of explaining and demonstrating to our younger students. A few complained that they were tired and I explained that I have done this every day for 35 years!
Stations included: plyometric boxes, 20 m slalom run, agility ladders and speed hula hoops, frisbee distance toss, tchoukball toss and catch, tug-of-war- balance, small ball-small cone agility, high step skipping with a ball, tic-tac-toe processing game, medicine ball lift and leap frog, whiffle ball accuracy throw, 10 m hurdles, rugby drop kicks, ring toss catching and throwing, football accuracy throwing, Chicken fish-spice relay race, standing broad jump, obstacle course and tire flip, introduction to high jump and springboard long jump.
Students took on each station for approximately 7-10 minutes and then moved on to more stations and more challenges.
Huge WES salute to our admin team, teachers, Educational Assistants, parent and grandparent supervisors who assisted us with the day.
My ultimate goal when I came to WES twenty years ago was to encourage students to participate at a high level of engagement and be good classmates, to have fun with all activities and enjoy learning in a non-threatening environment and to always strive to bring their best each and every day!
I encourage all students to get outside during the summer months and play, play, play! Play all sports if you can so that your brain can process different situations and allow for growth and development.
This is my last K-3 Activity Day of my career and I have enjoyed the smiles, the laughter and the pure pleasure of seeing our students “get a little better each and every day” during their time with me in the gym or outside.
Thank you to all my students who bring their best each and every day. I hope you thoroughly enjoyed your activity day today!
You are all beauties and “Rock Stars” in my books.
With love and respect,
Mr. Mitchell
