Gr 4-5 Track Meet 2025

Gr 4-5 Track Meet 2025

GRADES 4-6 Track Meet Showcases Talent and Cooperation!

The Grades 4-6 track meet took place on Monday, June 23rd with a 12 C breeze in the morning and cloudy overcast skies in the afternoon at Wainwright High School track.  There was plenty of competition, close races, long jumping and high jumping and softball distance throws in the air. Cooperation and fair play attitudes could be seen and heard with many students swarming classmates after they made a successful jump at the high jump.  WHS was gracious to allow us to use their awesome track and football field for our events. Students participated in a competitive meet in six events (plus the Open Mile if anyone wanted to tackle the challenge) which made for a full day. The six events included three running (85 m dash, 200 m race, 50 m Hurdles) two jumping (long jump and high jump) and one throwing event (distance throw).  The Open Mile followed all the events and took place just before 2:00 pm.

Major thank you goes out to the following:

  1. WHS Grade 9 leadership students and a few grade 7s after their final exams.  We had a few students signed up and assisted us in the six events we are so thankful for those students who gave back and modeled citizenship for their WES Star students. I was very proud of all the work our former students put in on the day.

Huge WES salute to all who attended.  Our ultimate goal is 100% attendance on this day as it is about cooperation and engagement mixed in with a little competition which also builds life skills in all our students.  For those of you who missed we hope you come out next year and enjoy in the fun.

This was my 20th WES track meet and my last WES track meet. To all the athletes thank you for your competition whether you earned a medal, a ribbon or not.  The classmates who cheered on their classmates to greater heights, faster times, longer throws, farther jumps, higher jumps – you should be commended for your spirit!

To the parents and grandparents thank you for being there to cheer on your child or grandchild.  Your presence at the event was noticed and appreciated by them and us.

To the supervisors, thank you for taking the day to connect with our students and hopefully you enjoyed the day.

To the staff, thank you for taking on a station and rockin’ it.  I ask a lot but you always step up and assist in all that we do.  Your energy does not go unnoticed.

I will come back sometime soon and substitute teach to fill my cup with more student energy and will enjoy seeing their faces and loving their energy and zest for life.

Students one last request:  It is critical in your teenage years to try new sports, go on new adventures outside and be a kid.  Too often we want to grow up too fast and miss out on competition and social interaction with our friends.  Please join a team, find a racket, go for a swim, bike ride or walk and engage in the outside with zest and zeal.  The screens will always be there but the interactions with our friends will not be so do not lose this opportunity.

It was hoped that during my years at WES that I connected with all students in some positive way.  I love each and every one of you and want nothing but the best for all of you in your futures.  Give back to your community and engage in lifelong life of sport and recreation.

Your teacher and friend,

Mr. Mitchell

P.S.  I’m here until Friday!
